"Charting Your Course" is a free five-week pre-apprenticeship program for rising high school seniors and recent graduates still exploring their career options. It offers hands-on learning in either aviation technology or industrial manufacturing while teaching essential skills such as resume writing and job interviews.

Aviation Technology Pre-Apprenticeship

  • Introduction to aerospace and aviation
  • Aviation mechanical skills
  • Workplace safety
  • Employability/workforce skills

Industrial Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship

  • Introduction to welding, automotive, machining, computer-aided design (CAD)
  • Industrial workplace skills
  • Workplace readiness/safety skills

Participants will be registered with North Carolina Registered Apprenticeship Network (NCRAN), making them eligible for any registered apprenticeship in North Carolina for which they qualify, as well as available stipends.


The program will be held on Craven CC's New Bern, Havelock, and Volt Center campuses and will include activities in the classroom, on the industrial plant floor, and in our simulation labs.

  • Space is limited to 12 students for Aviation Technology
  • Space is limited to 20 students for Industrial Manufacturing
  • Snacks and lunch will be provided
  • Drop off and pickup at the Havelock campus for Aviation Technology
  • Drop off and pickup at New Bern campus for Industrial Manufacturing
