Student Government

The Student Council is the official student government of Craven Community College as authorized by the Board of Trustees. The Council oversees all student organizations and activities. Current activities and events are listed on Campus Cruiser.

All curriculum students at Craven Community College are members of the student body, which is represented by the Student Council. The job of the Student Council is to promote student activities which are in keeping with the best interest of the College.

Student Council campaigning will be held during the fall semester. Petitioners must obtain the signatures of at least 20 students who support their candidacy. The student body may appoint nine students as at-large members to the Council through petitions. These positions are opened to students interested who are not members of any official student organization. Each official student organization of the College receiving student activity monies shall also appoint one representative member to the Council. These representatives will elect at-large members to the Council when student petitions exceed available positions.

Student Council members must be enrolled at least half time, as defined in the most recent edition of the College catalog, and must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. Any half-time freshman student may be a member of the Council regardless of the absence of a grade point average; however, as semester grades are received, any freshman Council member must have and maintain a grade point average of at least 2.0.

Council members will serve a term of one academic year, September through May. The Council will elect officers from its membership. The president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and parliamentarian will make up the Executive Committee and serve as student representatives on various College committees. If vacancies occur on the Council during the year, the College president will appoint new members.

Students who have questions about the Student Council or wish to express concerns to its representatives, should contact the vice president for student services at 252-638-7220 or fonvillj@cravencc.edu.
