Student Government Association

The Student Government Association (SGA) is the official student government of Craven Community College as authorized by the Board of Trustees. All curriculum students at Craven Community College are members of the student body, which is represented by the SGA. The job of the SGA is to promote student activities that are in keeping with the best interest of the college.

Committees

Campaigning: Maintains a list of all Student Body members who are eligible to serve on the SGA and endorse candidates. Responsible for conducting surveys to find out the interests and issues of the entire student body.

Finance: Shall review all proposed budgets for any SGA Committee and shall recommend to the SGA any necessary appropriations of funds. The Finance Committee shall oversee conduct of the financial business of the organization according to the SGA Operational Guidelines.

Programming: Shall keep updated information on all club activities/events to the SGA. The Programming Committee shall recommend, plan, organize, and implement programs with the approval of the SGA and carry out other duties that relate to SGA Operational Guidelines. Members are needed for the following sub-committees:

Public Information:Responsible for advertising/publicity, assisting in recruiting membership, marketing, media relations, maintaining the SGA organizational publications and other duties that relate to SGA Operational Guidelines.

Senators: Nine (9) members of the SGA may be appointed by petition of the Student Body as Senators. These positions are opened to persons who are not members of any official student organizations. All senators are here to voice the opinions of all students who are not in an official student organization.

Club Representatives: Each official student organization of the college receiving student activity monies shall appoint one representative and one alternate member to the SGA.

Senators/Club Representatives are expected to inform students in their curriculum or student organization of activities in the SGA.

Term of Membership: SGA members will serve a term of one academic year, August through May. The SGA will elect officers from its membership. The president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and parliamentarian will make up the Executive Committee and serve as student representatives on various college committees. If vacancies occur on the SGA during the year, the college president will appoint new members.
