As one of 58 community colleges of the North Carolina Community College System, Craven Community College's degree-granting authority is derived from Section 115D of the North Carolina General Statutes. Specifically, 115-D-20(4), which addresses "Power and duties of trustees", states that the powers and duties of trustees shall include, "To apply the standards and requirements for admission and graduation of students and other standards established by the State Board of Community Colleges."
This same authorization is in turn also included in Article I Section 3 (d) of the Bylaws of the Trustees of Craven Community College. The College's charter by the State Board of Education provides evidence of its degree-granting authority.
