CLEP / DANTES / Pearson Vue
Craven Community College and Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) Education Program have partnered together and opened a National Testing Center aboard MCAS Cherry Point Air Station which offers convenient and cost effective testing services to military personnel, family members, students and civilians associated with the base.
The National Testing Center (NTC) is now able to provide online testing and in most cases the test results are received immediately and scores are transferred to the school of their choice free of charge. The NTC offers College Level Examination Program (CLEP) testing, DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSSTs), and Pearson Vue professional certification exams.
The CLEP and DANTES standardized exams are offered to allow colleges and universities to award credit and/or to exempt a student from general education requirements in a variety of subjects by testing them on their current knowledge of the subject.
CLEP General & Subject Examinations: There are 34 tests that measure college level achievement in five main areas: English Composition, Humanities, Mathematics, Natural Science, and Social Sciences and History. Colleges may award 3 to 12 semester hours of college credit for successful completion. www.collegeboard.com
Dantes Subject Standardized Tests (DSSTs): The DSSTs cover both college level subject matter and vocational/technical matter. Tests are available in 37 subject areas. Colleges may award you up to 3 semester hours of college credit for each test successfully passed. www.getcollegecredit.com
Pearson Vue: These electronic certification and licensure testing delivers prompt test results for its growing list of IT certifications. The Pearson Vue advanced computer-based testing system administers exams for leading IT certification programs such as Cisco, CompTIA, Citrix, Novell and many more. For test availability and online registration: www.pearsonvue.com/military
CLEP and DSSTs exams are free, one time, to active duty and active reserve members. Retirees, DoD civilian employees, family members, and civilians attending on-base schools may test for a nominal fee.
Passing CLEP and DANTES scores in English, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Humanities, and Mathematics can equal credit for classes offered in these areas at Craven.
