17 associate's to bachelor's degree programs coming Fall 2007
from Craven Community College in conjunction with
East Carolina University and North Carolina State University

University Connections will bring the quality of two of the nation's leading higher education providers, the North Carolina Community College System and the University of North Carolina System, to the doorsteps of Craven County residents and our military.

Craven Community College is joining with East Carolina University and the North Carolina State University College of Engineering to provide students in our area with access to dual (associate's and bachelor's) degrees. After completing a Craven associate's degree and being accepted for admission at one of the two universities, students continue study on-site at a Craven Community College campus for engineering or education or online in 17 different program areas including business, communication, health information, industrial technology and nursing.

Some programs can be completed solely online from a student's very first class, while others, like the associate's degree to bachelor's degree in nursing, require that students complete their associate's degrees in some face-to-face classes. Students may choose to ease into distance education, and Craven will continue to offer associate degree level courses in both seated and Internet formats.

As part of the University Connections initiative, university representatives from both ECU and NC State will be housed on-site at Craven Community College campuses to enable advising so that students can map out a bachelor's degree completion opportunity that encompasses an associate's degree from Craven Community College and bachelor's degree from one of the university partners. The University Connections initiative will be headquartered at an office suite at Craven's Institute of Aeronautical Technology, located on the Havelock campus that will include offices for staff from both ECU and NC State. ECU's Wachovia Partnership East office will continue operation on the New Bern campus for those students interested in a teaching degree.
