How to Use the Library Catalog
The library's online catalog allows you to search our collection through your computer. Instead of having to physically visit the library and look through dusty, often disorganized card catalogs, you can find out if we have what you need with a few strokes of your keyboard.
You can search by author, title, subject or keyword. And, if our library doesn't have what you need, you can use the same catalog to search dozens of other community college libraries in the state. Sounds great, yes? It's easy, too! Here's a quick tutorial. Go to www.cclinc.ncccs.cc.nc.us.

Scroll down the CCLINC page (pictured above) until you see the link for Craven Community College. Click that link.
(Alternatively, you can skip steps 1 and 2, and click here to be taken directly to Craven's online catalog.)

The picture above is of the main page of our library's online catalog. From this page, you can perform several types of searches. If you're not sure where to start, use a words or phrase search. Search by author to find all the books in our library that a particular author has written. Use title to find a specfic book. Use subject to find material on a topic you're researching. A series search will help you find all the books in an ongoing series of publications, such as Opposing Viewpoints or the Demystified series.
Once you've selected the type of search you'd like to perform and entered in the keywords, click the Search button.

Depending on what type of search you perform, you will get a list of books in the library that are related to your search. You can find out more about each book by clicking the details button on the left-hand side. This will give you helpful information such as when the book was published, how many pages it is and a table of contents, which will give you some idea of what the book covers.

Once you've found the book that you want, pay attention to the call number. You can use the call number to find the book on our shelves. Also pay attention to the location. This will tell you if the book is located on our main shelves, in Reference, the North Carolina Collection or Teacher Resources Center.
If you can not find the book(s) that you need in our collection, then you can expand your search to all 44 libraries in the CCLINC chain. Together, these libraries have over a million volumes of material, so the odds are that you'll be able to find something that will be useful to you. Click here to learn more.
