Computer Information Technology Program DescriptionThe Computer Information Technology (CIT) program is the college's most versatile IT program. CIT is a flexible curriculum that provides a solid foundation of courses in the essentials of computer operating systems, databases, Web design, networking, security, Project Management, technical support and problem-solving. The program allows students the flexibility to specialize and advance in one or two areas of information technology that will meet their educational goals and employment objectives.
Program Highlights
- Courses are convenient, with 100 percent of courses available online or in hybrid format.
- Courses transfer into East Carolina University's 2+2 BSIT AAS transfer program.
- CIT students can train and test for a variety of industry-recognized certifications, including A+, Security+ and Net+.
- Graduates should be prepared to sit for industry-recognized certification exams. Students can register for IT certification testing through an authorized Prometric Testing Center. Register for exams at www.prometric.com.
Program ObjectivesUpon completion of all course work in the Computer Information Technology program, the student will be able to:
- Identify requirements, solve problems. and support business information technology needs.
- Develop, plan, implement, and document hardware and software installations and upgrades.
- Utilize a variety of software programs to fulfill organizational level protect requests.
- Employ security, contingency, and disaster recovery plans.

Program Population
- CIT students are a diverse group often entering with limited computer experience and knowledge.
- In addition to current and recent high school graduates, many students come from industry to obtain new or updated skills in IT.
- A significant number of our students are considered part-time with less than 12 hours.
Program Trends
- The Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment of Computer Support Specialists is expected to increase by 13 percent from 2006 to 2016.
- Demand for these workers will result as organizations and individuals continue to adopt increasingly sophisticated technology such as new mobile technologies.
- Physical location is not as important for Computer Support Specialists as it is for other occupations because these workers can provide assistance remotely and support services are provided around the clock across time zones.
