Associate in Science

Program Description
This 64-65 semester hour degree program is designed for students who plan to transfer to a college or university to complete a Bachelor of Science degree. The Associate in Science (AS) degree emphasizes math and natural sciences.
Information
- A 44-semester hour general education core includes English, fine arts/humanities, and social/behavioral sciences while emphasizing mathematics and natural sciences. The core requires 20 semester hours of mathematics and natural science courses.
- 20-21 semester hours of math and natural science electives develop depth and breadth in these areas.
- The core diploma of this degree, the 44-hour general education core plus ACA 111 or ACA 122, fulfills North Carolina university-system Basic Studies requirements.
- Four concentrations in the Associate of Science degree prepare students for specific science majors.
- A pre-major within the degree prepares students for engineering degrees.

Part of the CAA
Completion of the Associate in Science degree (A10400) under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) with the 16 North Carolina-system universities guarantees important transfer rights including assured admissions to a NC-system university (although not to any one specific university). A number of private colleges within North Carolina also recognize some transfer rights under the CAA. |
