Program Description:
Accountants use the "language of business," to assemble and analyze, process, and communicate essential information about financial operations. Students who enjoy basic math, solving problems, and a sense of balance may find accounting is the program for them.
In addition to course work in accounting principles, theories, and practice, accounting students study business law, finance, management, and economics. The two-year, associate degree program also has courses in communications, computer applications, financial analysis, critical thinking skills, and ethics.
Graduates should qualify for entry-level accounting positions in accounting firms, small businesses, manufacturing firms, banks, hospitals, school systems, and governmental agencies. With work experience and additional education, an individual may advance in the accounting profession.
In addition to the associate in applied science degree, the accounting program also features a one-year diploma in payroll accounting and certificates in small business accounting and payroll accounting.
