English Pre-Major (A1010E)

Most Bachelor in Arts in English degrees require 12 semester hours credit in a second language; students should begin this study as early as possible.

Students who wish a bachelor's degree in English Education should note the recommended courses in the Other Hours section of this degree plan.  Admission to a university's teacher education program requires satisfactory scores on the PRAXIS I.  Your academic advisor is the best source for details.

Academic Skills (1 Semester Hour Credit)

General Education Core (44 Semester Hours Credit)
The general education core includes study in the areas of humanities and fine arts, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences and mathematics, and English composition. Within the core, the college includes opportunities for the achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and the basic use of computers.

English Composition (6 SHC)

Humanities/Fine Arts (12 SHC)
Select four courses from at least three discipline areas. ENG 261 is required.  Only one COM course can be used to meet the humanities/fine arts requirement. (Other COM courses can be used to meet elective credits in the Other Required Hours category.)

Social/Behavioral Sciences (12 SHC)
Select four courses from at least three discipline areas. One course must be a history course.

Natural Sciences (8 SHC)
Select two courses, including accompanying laboratory work, from the biological and physical science disciplines. 

Mathematics (6 SHC)
Select one course from each of the following lists:
