This course introduces the physical, archaeological, linguistic, and ethnological fields of anthropology. Topics include human origins, genetic variations, archaeology, linguistics, primatology, and contemporary cultures. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the four major fields of anthropology. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement general education core requirement in social/behavioral sciences.

This course provides an ethnographic survey of societies around the world covering their distinctive cultural characteristics and how these relate to cultural change. Emphasis is placed on the similarites and differences in social institutions such as family, economics, politics, educaiton, and religion. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of a variety of cultural adaptive strategies. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement general education core requirement in social/behavioral sciences.

This course introduces the scientific study of the unwritten record of the human past. Emphasis is placed on the process of human cultural evolution as revealed through archaeological methods of excavation and interpretation. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of how archaeologists reconstruct the past and describe the variety of past human cultures. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement general educaiton core requirement in social/behavioral sciences.

This course provides an opportunity to explore topics of current interest. Emphasis is placed on the development of critical listening skills and the presentation of seminar issues. Upon completion, students should be able to critically analyze issues and establish informed opinions. Students will be introduced to basic archaeological methods and techniques of site survey, excavation, recording, processing, preservation, chronometry, and analysis of materials.
