Distance Learning Student ResourcesWriting Lab The Craven Community College Writing Labs are located in the Academic Skills Center at the New Bern and Havelock locations. Writing Lab hours vary from semester to semester. Please call 252-638-7274 (New Bern Campus) or 252-444-0707 (Havelock Campus) for the current semester’s schedule. If you are unable to come to the lab during those hours, you may submit your papers via email to writinglab@cravencc.edu, and a writing lab tutor will review your paper and email feedback to you as soon as possible, usually within two business days. The writing lab provides valuable suggestions to students regarding essays, research papers, resumes, and a wide variety of other documents. The ultimate goal is not to “fix” papers, but to empower students with the skills necessary for overall improvement of writing skills. Tutors are permitted to offer generalized feedback, but not to point out all grammatical errors or to make actual corrections for students. Student improvement is the goal, and hopefully, the ultimate outcome of the services provided by writing lab tutors. Curriculum PathwaysAnother option available for students who need assistance with papers can be found within an internet platform called Curriculum Pathways. Students can log on to Curriculum Pathways with the password located5questions. The Writing Reviser link can then be found on the bottom right corner of the page. This interactive resource provides detailed feedback to students, including such things as word count, number of fragments, and many elements of proper writing that are invaluable. Smarthinking
Subject areas available for tuition include Math, Writing, Business, Science and many others. If interested, please select Smarthinking to review the access instructions/procedures.
