Gain or acquire skills to assemble, analyze, process, and communicate essential information about financial operations. Course titles include: Basic Accounting This course introduces the basic accounting principles for a business emphasizing accounting cycles, end-of-period statements, bank reconciliation, payrolls, and petty case. Principles of Financial Accounting This course introduces business decision-making accounting information systems with emphasis placed on analyzing, summarizing, reporting, and interpreting financial information. Business Income Taxes This course introduces the relevant laws governing business and fiduciary income taxes including laws relating to business organizations, electronic research and methodologies, and the use of technology for the preparation of business tax returns. Federal Income Taxes This course provides an overview of federal income taxes for individuals, partnerships, and corporations emphasizing tax laws relating to business organizations, electronic research and methodologies, and the use of technology for the preparation of business tax returns. NC Business Taxes This course introduces the relevant laws governing North Carolina taxes as they apply to business and addresses sales, income, payroll, unemployment, and other taxes pertaining to the State of North Carolina. Principles of Banking This course covers the fundamentals of bank functions in a descriptive fashion emphasizing banks and the monetary system, the relationship of banks to depositors, the payment functions, bank loans and accounting, regulations, and examinations. Teller Training This course provides an overview of banking teller operations, bank security, and customer relations in preparation for work as a bank teller. Bookkeeping Certificate This is a certificate program requiring the individual to take the two courses listed below. After successfully completing these courses, you will receive a certificate from Craven CC. Principals of Accounting This online course introduces the basic principles and procedures of accounting. Emphasis is placed on collecting, summarizing, analyzing, and reporting financial information. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze data and prepare journal entries and reports as they relate to the accounting cycle. Practices in Bookkeeping This course provides advanced instruction in bookkeeping and record-keeping functions. Emphasis is placed on mastering adjusting entries, correction of errors, depreciation, payroll, and inventory. Upon completion, students should be able to conduct all key bookkeeping functions for small business. Agriculture and Natural ResourcesLearn skills necessary for employment in the agricultural or natural resources occupations. Marine Captain's Licensing Course This course will provide information necessary to take the United States Coast Guard examination for Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel "OUPV" (six-pack) or master's license, either inland, near coastal or desired seamanship level certification. Air Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration, VentilationLearn cooling, heating, refrigeration, and ventilation principles and processes. Gain basic knowledge and skills to work with residential and light commercial comfort and refrigeration systems. Handle start-up and use refrigerants in accordance with EPA standards. (Licensing is coordinated with State Board of Refrigeration). Class titles include: Introduction to Refrigeration This course introduces the basic refrigeration process used in mechanical refrigeration and air conditioning systems. HVAC Electricity This course introduces electricity as it applies to HVACR equipment placing emphasis on power sources, interaction of electrical components, wiring of simple circuits, and use of electrical test equipment. Heating Technology This course covers the fundamentals of heating including oil, gas, and electric heating systems. Comfort Cooling This course covers the installation procedures, system operations, and maintenance of residential and light commercial comfort cooling equipment. Heat Pump Technology This course covers the principles of air source and water source heat pumps emphasizing safety, modes of operation, defrost systems, refrigerant charging, and system performance. HVACR Maintenance This course introduces the basic principles of industrial air conditioning and heating systems emphasizing preventive maintenance procedures. HVACR Electronics This course introduces the common electronic control components in HVAC systems. HVACR Controls This course covers the types of controls found in residential and commercial comfort systems and addresses controls, control schematics and diagrams, test instruments, and analysis and troubleshooting of electrical systems. Refrigerant Certification The course covers the requirements for the EPA certification examination and includes exam administration. Residential Building Code This course covers the residential building codes that are applicable to the design and installation of HVAC systems. Residential Systems Design This course introduces the principles and concepts of conventional residential heating and cooling system design. Advanced Comfort Systems This course covers water-cooled comfort systems, water-source/geothermal heat pumps, and high efficiency heat pump systems, including variable speed drives and controls. Commercial System Design This course coves the principles of designing heating and cooling systems for commercial buildings. Chiller Systems This course introduces the fundamentals of liquid chilling equipment emphasizing characteristics of water, principles of water chilling, the chiller, the refrigerant, water and piping circuits, freeze prevention, purging, and equipment flexibility. Indoor Air Quality This course introduces the techniques of assessing and maintaining the quality of the indoor environment in residential and commercial structures. Aircraft Maintenance / PilotInstrumentation Rating This 60-hour classroom course is designed to advance the Private Pilot to an instrument rating status (FAA 141). Rating examination is to be coordinated with instructor. Class is located at the Craven Regional Airport, in the Tradewind Aviation, International building. Ground School for Pilots This 60-hour classroom course includes study of aerospace history, weather navigation, instruments, pre-flight planning, computer and wind triangulation, regulations, radio communication, the aviation industry, and procedures necessary to become pilot qualified. Persons completing this course may sit for the required FAA written examination. Animal CareThere is no additional information at this time. AutomotiveLearn automotive processes and theories as applied to operation, maintenance, and repair of engines, brakes, transmission/transaxles, steering/suspension, electronic/electrical systems, climate control, and drive trains. Course titles include: Motorcycle Repair and Maintenance This program is designed to give you the specialized skills and knowledge you need for a career servicing and repairing today's modern bikes. Whether you're interested in basic motorcycle repair or looking to improve your skills, we offer the hands-on experience that can put your future on the fast track. In this course you will be introduced to Suspension Systems, Brake Systems, Four Stroke Engines, Two Stroke Engines, Fundamentals of Electricity, Electrical Systems, Fuel Systems, and Service. Requirements: Students bring their own motorcycle which must be properly licensed and insured. Students are also advised to bring their Motorcycle Maintenance Manual. Students need to bring oil, and oil filter for their motorcycle. Introduction to Collision Repair This course is designed to prepare the student for entry level positions in the Auto Body Repair Field. Course topics will include a study of automobile construction and design, removing, installing, and cutting glass, metal working, painting, use of tools, safety procedures and other related topics. Introduction to Airbrushing Part-1 This course is designed for students who are interested in working in industrial air brushing fields. By the end of this class students will be able to determine the different types of airbrushes and their proper use, as well as how to clean, maintain and trouble shoot problems. This class will teach the basic necessary brush strokes and different types of materials used. Introduction to Airbrushing-Part 2 This course is designed for students who are interested in working in industrial air brushing fields. By the end of this class students will be able to determine the different types of masking materials and their use and how to make a template or stencils. This class will teach proper use of different types of stencils and how to determine light sources for shading. Auto Safety Inspection This course will offer Initial Certification for vehicle safety inspectors in accordance with the NC Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles laws. Onboard Diagnostic (OBD) Emissions Inspection This course will certify vehicle emissions inspectors in accordance with the NC Department of Transportation laws. Students must purchase textbook to receive credit for course. OBD Renewal This course will offer Renewal Certification for vehicle emissions inspectors in accordance with the NC Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles laws. Independent Auto Dealer This course is designed to meet the continuing education training requirements for the Used Motor Vehicle Dealer's license renewal. As mandated by House Bill 432, North Carolina independent auto dealers must complete a six-hour course for a renewal license. Topics include licensing requirements, powers of commissioner, dealer license plates, vehicle inspections, titling and registration, frequently used forms, Federal Trade Commission, dealer disclosures, notary duties, bankruptcy, and laws/acts governing dealers. Basics of Conventional Loan Processing This course is designed to give the student a basic understanding of conventional mortgage loan processing. Loan processing is defined as that period of time between receiving a mortgage loan application and submitting the application to underwriting. In this course individuals will gain knowledge of disbursing the required disclosures to the applicants, obtaining reports, verifications, and appraisals, and reviewing these items for accuracy and completeness. Loan processing is the most crucial part of the process and requires attention to details, knowledge of all rules and guidelines, efficiency and accuracy. A mutually beneficial agreement between the NC Community College System, the NC Employment Security System and BB&T supporting the economic growth and development in the state of North Carolina. Fire Prevention, Levels 1 This course uses the NC Fire Prevention Code, 2006 Edition to develop knowledge and skills required for basic fire prevention code enforcement. Mechanical, Levels 1, 2, and 3 These courses are designed for persons interested in code enforcement responsibility of residential and commercial mechanical installation. Civil EngineeringThe College has cooperative arrangements with other North Carolina Community Colleges that offer training in surveying and water processing and distribution. CommunicationsLearn the principles of effective oral and written communications used within the workplace. Public Speaking This course provides instruction and experience in preparation and delivery of speeches within a public setting and group discussion. Emphasis is placed on research, preparation, delivery, and evaluation of informative, persuasive, and special occasion public speaking. Business Writing This class builds on the fundamentals of grammar, punctuation, and spelling required of effective business correspondence. Students use the discovery method to gain important information and then use the computer to develop a variety of written documents that are accurate, brief, clear, and easily understood. The importance of audiences, messages, and content is emphasized. It is recommended that students have attended Writing and Grammar class, or have the introductory skills covered in that course, prior to attending this course. Registration includes addition $5.00 fee. Report Writing This 24-hour class builds on the writing skills that are contained in the Workplace Basic and Business Writing courses. Students will use the computer to create a variety of workplace reports and develop and present a Point (Talking) Paper on a topic of their choice. It is recommended that students have attended the Workplace or Business Writing courses, or have the introductory skills covered in that course, prior to attending this course. Writing and Grammar This 24-hour class introduces and emphasizes the fundamentals of grammar, punctuation, and spelling that are common to most business environments. Students are coached in the importance of audience and message, and in the use of the discovery method to gain important facts and information. They learn how to organize this information to create written documents that are accurate, brief, and clear. Students use the computer to perform on-line exercises and play the "Grammar Game." Rapid Deployment This course is designed for law enforcement officers wishing to learn how to respond to an active shooting situation in a large building. Rural Surveillance This training is designed for the participant to obtain unique and specialized training to achieve the ability to conduct a rural/woodland operation and learn the art of invisibility in a woodland environment. Course topics include: Operational Planning, Camouflage Techniques, Prior Intelligence of Target Assessment, Safety Issues, Infiltration and Exfiltration Techniques, Hide Site Construction, Equipment Needs, and Surveillance Strategies. If you are not familiar to the components of a computer this course is for you. This course is followed by Basics of Computer Fundamentals in Computer Fundamentals. Basics of Computer Fundamentals These three part course starts you in the right direction to use your computer most effectively. The first part of the class will take you to learn to navigate outlook, manage your e-mails and navigate the web and with MS Word. Also this part of the class will focus on managing your files with My Computer and Find files and use the Recycle Bin. The second part of the class will help you create and save files as documents, letters and spreadsheets with using Excel. Contracts and Closing This is one of the three 30 hour classroom-hour mandatory post-licensing courses that must be completed by newly licensed North Carolina provisional brokers within three (3) years after licensure. The primary objective of these courses is to provide instruction at a level beyond that provided in pre-licensing courses on topics deemed to be of special importance to licensees. Topics addressed in this course include a selected basic contract law concepts, real estate sales contract preparation, sales contract procedure, closing procedures and closing statement preparation, and real estate license status and education issues. Topics addressed in this course include a review of commercial real estate brokerage, residential property management, land use control, loan funds, license law issues and case studies, fair housing, establishing a brokerage firm, and manufactured and modular homes. Real Estate Continuing Education Every 3rd Wednesday of the each month starting October 08, Craven Community College now offers Updates and Electives (2008/2009 topic is Property Disclosures) for Continuing Education credits for Real Estate agents. In Addition every 1st Wednesday, Broker in Charge class will be offered. Craven also will offer Ethics class. Appraisal Effective January 2008, Real Property Appraiser Qualifications Criteria has been changed. Craven Community College is now offering "Registered Trainee" courses for future appraisers. Registered Trainee training is the first step to enter to the Appraisers field. In this 90 hour training, participants will be taking four different classes: Basic Appraisal Principles (30 hours), Basic Appraisal Procedures (30 hours) Residential Market Analysis Highest and Best Use (15 hours) and National USPAP Course (15 hours) SafetyLearn principles, guidelines, and procedures to ensure safety of workplace. Course titles include: Workplace Safety The course introduces the basic concepts of workplace safety emphasizing fire, ladders, lifting, lifting, lock-out/tag-out, personal protective devices, and other workplace safety issues related to OSHA compliance. Industrial Safety This course introduces the principles of industrial safety to include OSHA and environmental regulations. Environmental Health and Safety This course covers environmental health and safety concepts with emphasis placed on managing the implementation and enforcement of environmental health and safety regulations associated with quality control and management. CPR First Aid This course provides the basic knowledge and skills necessary to perform basic CPC, first aid, and care related to the work, home, or recreational setting. Service OccupationsNon-profit and Grants The success of your not for profit organization is illustrated by how it values its staff and customers. Our professional series enable you to improve your professional effectiveness for the continued success of your organization. The one day courses are offered during the Winter and Spring. Craven CC has also regular series of classes for a week for not for profit organization during the Non-Profit celebration Month in November. Teacher Recertification / MethodologyEffective Teacher Training Course Content will include training in effective methods of instruction and discipline, as well as policies and legal issues in the public schools. This course provides specialized training using an experienced-based approach to learning. Topics include instructional expectations, evaluation, and curriculum principles and planning. TransportationVehicle Escort Certification Training (Oversize/Overweight Vehicles) This 8-hour course focuses on safe operations of escort vehicles as required by the N.C. Department of Transportation. This course along with the Defensive Driving Course must be completed in order to receive certification as a vehicle escort operator. WeldingLearn science, technology, and application of electrode welding/cutting processes. Emphasis is placed on safe operations and the proper use of consumable and not-consumable welding/cutting materials and metals. Courses in math and blueprint reading, metallurgy, welding inspection, and destructive and non-destructive testing help to develop industry-standard skills. Program emphasizes practical application. Certification with the national Welding Association is available. Registration includes additional $10 fee to cover consumable supplies. Course titles include: Fabrication This is a project-oriented class for students to perform fabricating tasks in the metalworking field. Students should have basic hands-on cutting and welding skills to perform project tasks. Topics of instruction will include materials, layout, measurements, design, dimensioning, blueprint interpretation, manual fabrication, general shop practices, shop geometry, finishing, and various types of welding processes appropriate to the project being worked. Registration includes additional $10.00 equipment fee. Prerequisites include instructor approval. Cutting Process This course introduces oxy-fuel and plasma-arc cutting systems emphasizing safety, proper equipment setup, and operation of oxy-fuel and plasma-arc cutting equipment to create straight lines, curved and bevel cuts. Basic Welding Processes This course introduces basic welding and cutting with emphasis placed on beads applied with gases, mild steel fillers, and electrodes and the capillary action of solder. SMAW Stick / Plate This course introduces the shielded metal arc (Stick) welding process with emphasis placed on padding, fillet, and groove welds in various positions with SMAW electrodes. SMAW Stick / Plate / Pipe This course is designed to enhance skills with the shielded metal are (stick) welding process with emphasis placed on advancing manipulative skills with SMAW electrodes on varying joint geometry. MIG This course introduces metal are welding and flux core arc welding processes with emphasis placed on equipment setup and fillet and groove welds and applications of GMAW and FCAW electrodes on carbon steel plate. TIG This course introduces the gas tungsten are (TIG) welding process with emphasis placed on correct selection of tungsten, polarity, gas, and proper filler rod, safety, equipment setup, and welding techniques. Symbols and Specifications This course introduces the basic symbols and specifications used in welding with emphasis placed on interpretation of lines, notes, welding symbols, and specifications. Certification Processes This course cover certification requirements for industrial welding processes emphasizing techniques and certification requirements for pre-qualified joint geometry. Workforce DevelopmentThis area of training is devoted to assisting the organization to enhance or improve its operations by training the workforce in the skills deemed appropriate after analyzing processes, skill levels, and training methodologies.
