Military Outreach

Being a service member in today’s military requires a high level of commitment and considerable sacrifice from the individual as well as the family members. At Craven Community College, we understand the demands and challenges of the military profession. We offer the credibility, convenience, and commitment that military students deserve.

One example of our commitment to you is the choice of traditional 16-week classes or 8-week condensed mini-term classes. All summer classes in Havelock meet for 10 weeks. The College offers these options to meet the needs of our non-traditional students who may have deployment obligations that limit their ability to attend traditional 16-week semesters. Another available option is to pursue an education through distance education classes, to include Internet, video and telecourses.

Financial Aid for Military Students

Many types of financial aid programs are available to military students:

Department of Veteran Affairs (VA): To apply for these benefits, the student must complete a VA form. If a student is using VA benefits for the first time, VA Form 22-1990 is used. If a student is changing programs or has used benefits within the past year, VA Form 22-1995 is used. For more details and answers to your questions, please contact Jeff Quinn at 252-638-7231 or quinnj@cravencc.edu.

DANTES: See your Education Officer or contact the MCAS Cherry Point Education Office at 252-466-3500 or 252-466-4348.

Tuition Assistance (TA): Tuition Assistance provides 100% of tuition costs. Contact the MCAS Cherry Point Education Office at 252-466-3500 or 252-466-4348 for more information.

Scholarships, Loans and Federal Grants: There are other sources of financial aid for most Craven Community College students. Our college participates in the Federal Student Aid Program. Contact our Financial Aid Office at 252-638-7216.

Student Career Experience Program or Cooperative Education: This is an “earn-while-you-learn” concept. The College has an agreement with the Naval Air Depot Cherry Point that allows students to work part-time at the Depot while attending college. Students work with journeyman mechanics in fields related to their educational objectives. Contact Wanda Thomas, Director of Career Development, at 252-638-7401 or thomasw@cravencc.edu.
