2007-08 International Film Series

Explorations: Seeking New Worlds

Presented by Craven Community College and Public Radio East

YOU ARE INVITED ONCE AGAIN-

We hope you will join us for the 2007-08 Explorations: Seeking New Worlds, International Film and Lecture Series.  The series is presented by the Craven Community College Lifetime Learning Center in partnership with Public Radio East. Each year we work to bring you a view of the world through films and to hear about the world through lectures.  All of us, volunteer committees and staff of the college and PRE, view our work selecting and presenting the films and lectures as a real labor of love.  It's such a pleasure to see growing numbers of people attending the films and lectures and to hear your enthusiastic comments.

Friday, April 11 - WHEN THE SEA RISES -FRANCE

When the Sea Rises tells the story of Irène (Moreau), a 45-year-old actress travelling from one small town to another with her one-woman show, "Dirty Business." Slyly funny in her masked onstage persona, Irene is a genial pro at touring alone, phoning home to her husband and child and sleeping in a new hotel each night. Things change when a scooter-driving vagabond named Dries fixes her stalled car. After accepting an invitation to her show, Dries soon appears at every stop on her tour as her "randomly selected" audience participant. What develops is a remarkably natural and tender affair between two true eccentrics.

ALL EVENTS TAKE PLACE AT ORRINGER AUDITORIUM,

This year our film series has been made possible through a gift from Bill and Patricia Naumann. We are very grateful to them for embracing the community with their generous spirit and enthusiasm for the arts.

We extend our thanks to David Young of Edward Jones for his continuing support of the Craven Community College Lifetime Learning Center and the opportunities all of us are afforded to fill our lives with learning and discovery.
