Craven Community College
The successful candidate must be a person of high energy and integrity with substantial senior-level administrative experience, preferably at a community college. A Master's degree is required, with a doctorate from an accredited institution being preferred. Teaching experience, though not required, is desirable.
In addition, the President should have the following characteristics and leadership qualities:
- Demonstrates the ability to foster and maintain high ethical standards;
- Understands and appreciates the college's mission, its history, its service area, and its role in the North Carolina Community College System;
- Understands that the President of Craven Community College is expected to be very active and visible in the community;
- Demonstrates visionary leadership that is focused on student success and a learning-centered environment;
- Supports the comprehensive mission of the college in providing high quality workforce education programs, as well as university transfer programs, adult basic skills instruction, and non-credit courses for job preparation and special interest;
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills, including being easily approachable; must be able to work with people at all levels, both inside and outside the college, including community leaders and elected officials;
- Understands and supports the college's commitment to economic development and to providing high quality training and educational services for employers in the college's service area;
- Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively, including the development and maintenance of strong partnerships in education, economic development, and other community endeavors;
- Possesses good communication skills, including verbal and written, with the ability to interact positively with faculty, staff, students, Board members, and external constituencies;
- Appreciates the role of the military and Department of Defense-related agencies in the economy of Craven County;
- Exemplifies a commitment to personally practicing, valuing, and supporting lifelong learning and professional development;
- Supports the role of the college in providing extracurricular activities for its students and cultural opportunities for its students and for the New Bern/Craven County community;
- Understands and appreciates the college's unique and diverse student body and service area - and supports proactive efforts to serve all parts of the community;
- Possesses the ability to raise financial resources from private and non-traditional sources;
- Understands funding and budget-making processes - and has demonstrated ability to effectively manage financial resources; and
- Understands the important role technology plays in society and education - and demonstrates commitment to providing leadership in the use of technology to support student learning, alternative delivery systems, and management processes.
