Role and Scope
The College provides opportunity for access to higher education for students seeking post-secondary education and those who are not traditionally served in higher education by offering the following programs, services, and support:
Academic Skills Center provides tutorial services, Supplemental Instruction, and academic support services for instruction. Students seeking ADA accommodations are supported on the New Bern campus through the ASC.
Adult Education Programs provide literacy, basic education, high school completion programs, and compensatory education.
Applied Associate Degree Programs allow students to develop general education competencies and technical skills for current and future employment and education.
Career Guidance Services enable students and prospective students to receive personalized support in selecting career paths which will maximize their chances for success.
College Transfer Courses and Programs enable students to transfer to senior institutions.
Community Service Programs provide area citizens a variety of activities and services to enrich their personal, cultural, and professional lives.
Continuing Education and Professional Upgrade Programs provide avocational courses and professional occupational development training to individuals.
Cooperation with Employers provides input into curriculum development, support in terms of resources, expanded employment opportunities, job placement and on-the-job training, and provides custom-designed training for new and/or expanding industries.
Developmental Studies helps students improve their academic and personal preparedness for college-level study.
Distance Education affords students the opportunity to learn in situations that are neither time nor place bound.
Economic Development Services assist the local private and public sector in promoting economic development in the local, state, national, and/or international arena.
Educational Certificate and Diploma Programs provide technical/vocational and supporting general education skills required for employment and career growth.
Institutional Effectiveness Evaluation provides ongoing review and improvements of the College's programs, personnel, and services.
Interaction and Coordination with Public Schools, Colleges, and Universities provides increased participation in cooperative relationships.
Learning Resources provide support for the academic programs of the College and a variety of enrichment opportunities for both students and the community.
Small Business Center provides assistance to small businesses including retail service, and small manufacturing firms and acts as a broker for resources.
Sound Management Practices and Systematic Planning provide a quality learning environment with up-to-date facilities and equipment and highly skilled personnel.
Student Development Services provide support services and activities to maximize chances for success and enhance the potential for personal and educational growth of the individual.
All of the programs, services, and support offered represent parts of the whole, which is Craven Community College, as it strives to prepare students for their places in the global environment.
