Havelock Campus
After operating in Havelock as a storefront operation since 1969, the College is well along toward establishing a permanent facility. The College had the groundbreaking ceremony for the 24-acre campus on October 13, 2000. The new campus will have three buildings: a library, a classroom/laboratory building, and the Institute of Aeronautical Technology (IAT). The Havelock campus will allow the College to better serve the educational needs of the county by expanding existing programs as well as by providing programs that were previously offered only at the New Bern campus. The classroom/laboratory building will include 8 laboratories and 15 classrooms that will allow for enhanced evening and daytime programs. The library is a joint venture between the College and the Craven-Pamlico-Carteret Regional Library System. The IAT will enroll 100-125 students, including current NADEP employees, Marines transitioning to the private sector, and local residents interested in pursuing employment aboard the air station at Cherry Point. The Institute’s curriculum is designed to provide students with the basic knowledge for those who intend to seek a career in Aviation Systems Technology. It prepares individuals with the necessary skills for the Federal Aviation Administration written, oral and practical powerplant and airframe examinations. The grand opening ceremony for the Havelock Campus was held in November 2003. |
