Craven Community College continues to move forward in Distance education with the Fall of 2003 housing 1204 distance education seats. In the Fall of 2003, three degrees are available via a distance: AA college transfer, General Education, and Business Administration. All full-time instructors in the Business Programs Area are teaching Internet, Tele or Video courses. There are also course offerings in the following areas: Biology, criminal justice, English, Health, History, Math, Psychology and Sociology. The college continues to reach out to students beyond the traditional service area through participation in the Southern Regional Education Consortium and the Virtual Learning Community. In Fall 2002, we had 76 different sections of Distance education courses, with 937 seats. By the Fall of 2003, we had expanded to 91 different sections of Distance education courses with 1204 seats. Our distance education population grew by 28%. Craven Community College strives to offer our courses to students located anywhere in the world. In 2002-2003 terms, students from the following 22 states participated in courses at Craven Community College: Florida, Maryland, Texas, Virginia, California, Louisiana, Colorado, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Washington, Arizona, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, New York, Kansas, Ohio, Mississippi, Missouri, and Alabama. Research indicated no significant differences in performance of students of distance and traditional courses taught by the same instructor. The number of students taking courses solely by a distance continues to climb. The Business Office and Student Services continue to work with the instructional area to make distance education accessible to students. The Godwin Memorial Library is also a key player in this effort, checking out hundreds of videotapes each semester and providing an on-line link to NCLIVE. FOR MORE INFORMATION, SEE CHARTS BELOW: |
