The Institute of Aeronautical Technology provides specialized training in aviation maintenance. The Institute was founded out of a need to provide a constant supply of skilled aviation maintenance technicians for the Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) aboard Cherry Point Air Station. FRCE is one of the largest employers in Eastern North Carolina and contributes nearly $1 billion in annual financial impact on the local economy.
The Aviation Systems Technology curriculum prepares students for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) written, oral and practical power plant and airframe (A&P) examinations. FAA and state certified graduates of this program will earn an Associate in Applied Science - Aviation Systems Technology degree.
Along with the Institute, there is a classroom building and a full-service library located at the new 24-acre Havelock Campus. The 23,000 square foot Lewis S. Redd Classroom Building includes a science lab, five computer labs, 11 classrooms, a learning lab, career center, snack bar and administrative offices. Degree-seeking students in most programs of study can complete all academic requirements at the Havelock Campus.
