Arts and Sciences

The Arts and Sciences Division offers the following programs:

Associate in Arts A10100
Associate in Fine Arts A10200
Associate in General Education A10300
Associate in Science A10400

Program Descriptions
The Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A.), and Associate in Science (A.S.) are known as college transfer programs because the majority of enrolled students intend to transfer to four-year colleges or universities to earn baccalaureate degrees. The General Education Core Courses (44 SH) are equivalent to the general education requirements of any baccalaureate degree. The Associate in General Education is also known as "General Studies." This program is often taken by students desiring to receive a general two-year degree that includes applied professional courses (welding, accounting, cosmetology, etc.) or for students taking courses before applying for the Associate Degree in Nursing. Through the Associate in General Education, a college transfer program may be tailored to prepare students for a specialized major such as pre-med, pre-pharmacy, turf-management, et cetera. The Associate in Fine Arts prepares a student to enter a music conservatory, an art institute, or to develop the skills of an artist or musician.
The Arts and Sciences Division consists of the following departments:

" Language & Fine Arts - Dr. Murdina MacDonald, Chair

" Social Sciences, Health, & Physical Education - Caroline Whitehead, Chair

" Mathematics and Science Maria Pharr, Chair

Each department has an appointed chair whose duties are to coordinate class scheduling, ensure current course guides, supervise part-time faculty, approve book orders, establish and evaluate department goals, conduct department meetings, and handle other matters as needed. Department chairs supervise part-time instructors, while the dean supervises full-time instructors.
