Our Construction Academy is an eight-week "fee-waived" course designed to expose students to various occupations and skills in the construction trades, as well as training on how to become employed in the construction industry.

Students will complete the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Core curricula, NCCER Field Safety curricula, and will complete the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour Safety Certification, receiving certification for each of these courses upon satisfactory completion of the curriculum.

Students will also get hands-on and classroom training. Additionally, local employers in the construction trades will meet with the class to explain opportunities in their industry and share their experience and knowledge in current and future construction trades, as well as possible employment opportunities.

Scholarships Available

This fee-waived program is being supported, in whole or in part, by federal award number SLFRP0129 awarded to North Carolina by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Students accepted into this program are eligible to receive the following:

  • Tuition assistance that covers up to 100% registration costs
  • Books available for usage during the class at no added cost
  • $750 attendance-based scholarship after the fourth week of class
